I’m Jillian, the artist behind Lovey Studios. I create functional ceramics that take on creature-like forms—pieces that feel alive, slightly unsettling, and full of personality. I often sculpt and alter thrown pieces with exaggerated features, texture, and detail. incorporating spikes, chains, and layered elements that introduce tension and contrast.
I’m drawn to the idea of juxtaposition—how opposing qualities can exist at the same time. That interest shows up in my work through the balance of soft forms and harsher details, playful character and unsettling presence, function and sculpture.
“Lovey” was the name my late grandmother called me, and she remains one of the most influential people in my life. I chose to carry that name into my work as a reflection of that same contrast—a reminder that softness and intensity, comfort and unease, can coexist.
My work lives in that space: familiar objects made unfamiliar, pieces that feel a little strange, a little playful, and meant to be used, not just observed.
